Honorary Chairman George Fischer
Mr. George Fischer is a native of West Louisville and as a young man caddied at Shawnee Golf Course from 1940 to 1944. He graduated from Flaget High School in 1950 and then received a Golf Scholarship from the University of Florida. He was the first Kentuckian to receive a Golf Scholarship from a major University. He was captain of the University of Florida golf team in 1953 and 1954. George went on to become a jet pilot in the USAF before beginning his business career in sales with IBM in 1958. During his 11 years at IBM, he twice developed sales teams that achieved the number one national office ranking in both Chicago and NYC. In 1969 he returned to his hometown of Louisville as a founder of Metridata Computing, Inc. In 1971 Metridata became the largest remote computer processing company for the banking industry in the Midwest and a leader in the field of proprietary education under his leadership. In 1980, Mr. Fischer began SerVend, which became the number one manufacturer of ice/beverage dispensing systems in the nation. In the early 1980’s, he was Secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet during the Brown Administration. He emphasized education and began the state’s employee training program which now benefits over 20,000 Kentuckians annually. He is a former chairman of the U of L Board of Trustees and currently serves on the U of L Board of Overseers.
